Mom’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I grew up on these healthy cookies–the brown sugar can be substituted with all honey. If you like raisins, they can be added instead of chocolate chips. My Mom would sometimes add raisins and chocolate chips, and I would always hope for my bite to have chocolate in it…so now that I make these cookies, I only add chocolate!

1 cup butter
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
6 cups oatmeal
1 cup chocolate chips

Cream together the oil and butter, then add the honey, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until you have a nice smooth batter.

Mix in the oatmeal and chocolate chips.
Drop by Tablespoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet, and bake for 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees.

Makes 4-5 dozen depending on the cookie size.

  1. Hooray! I was hoping to find a good cookie recipe to make soon for my beloved…and this one looks perfect!
PS: When you said it’s ok to add both chocolate chips AND raisins, I was so glad…I love both in my oatmeal cookies!
PPS: In this recipe, if I use both, do I put one cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of raisins?? Or 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup raisins? I don’t want to mess up the ratio, although I prefer to put a cup of each!
    Thanks so much :-))))
    Happy (almost) Friday!

    • Wonderful! I’m glad I could provide you with a good recipe. 🙂
You go right ahead and add 1 cup of each of chips and raisins, and take out 1/2 c. of oats. I hope you and your Beloved like them!
      Have a marvelous weekend. 🙂
      Love, Mary
