School is Out! Happy First Day of Summer

Releasing my students into summer happened a couple of weeks ago (huzzah!). Seeing the room without 34 desks, chairs, and students made it feel huge. On my last day at school, I took time to just sit and my desk and write out that list of suggested books for the summer (see: Young Adult Fiction to Read This Summer)

Having time to relax and just write at school helped me transition from the frantic pace of survival teaching (just keeping up with the class; staying bearly ahead of them) to the tranquilness of summer. I sat at my desk, pondered which books to recommend, sipped my water, and just enjoyed my classroom letting the peace of a wrapped up classroom seep into my soul.

Throughout this school year usually I never had enough time to prepare the way I wanted to, and for this last book suggestion list, I took as long as I needed and that brought a satisfaction and settledness that was a great way to end the school year! And now, it is time to relax and enjoy family and friends this summer.

Happy first day of summer!

Hello Friends, A curious, kind, practical, and energetic writer, wife, mother, and teacher is one way to describe me. I enjoy thinking about transitions--in schools, churches, families, relationships, and even countries. I'm passionate about learning, and I love working with people. Stop by often to see which kind of transition I'm thinking about, and I would appreciate hearing your thoughts. Peace! ~Mary Hope
