One day a couple of months ago, after Joel woke up from his morning nap, in his still-sleepy state, he cuddled with me for a bit. I keep books on the dresser near his chair, and on this day he reached for his children’s Bible, so I brought it over for him to hold.
He studied the cover intently; his eyes scrunched into a smile as he looked down at the picture of Jesus. There was love in his eyes.
I said, “Joel, your Mom and Dad love you a lot, but Jesus loves you even more.” He kept looking at his Bible, but it felt like he understood what I told him. His eyes looked down at the picture with care and love shining out.
His little chubby chin pushed down, the sides of his eyes kept crinkling into a smile, and his care for his Bible came through.
I’m so glad Joel is learning this!
We read from his Bible every night, and I let him hold it and play with it. He likes opening it up and looking at the cover. Why not let him explore the Bible himself?
Which Bibles do we like to read? Here are our top two on Amazon:
My brother and his family gave Joel this one last year for Christmas, and even though it is for older kids, Joel likes the pictures, and I love the words–it reads like a smooth and beautiful story (which it is)!
Last December many friends from church brought us meals right after Joel was born, and one lady gave us this Bible as a gift along with the amazing meal. Joel loves paging through this Bible. It’s a little banged up, but I’m okay with that because he has made it his own:
