Friday Introduction /// Thank You for Following Me

Hi! I'm Mary (or Mrs. Schuh if I was your Language Arts teacher). Here's some of my story…
///
At age two I started filling notebooks with squiggles, and I have loved writing since then; my grandma and Mom also wrote and teach — I guess writing is in my blood! I started a blog, Trees of Transition, for fun four years ago, and have enjoyed sharing stories, photos, thoughts on transitions.
///
I started snapping photos with a little film camera at about age 10, and I've enjoyed taking photos since then wherever I go — Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Southwest USA, and lots from my home area of the Midwest USA. About 2 1/2 years I started a card shop where I turn those photos into cards, Trees of Transition Art & Design, on Etsy selling photography and pressed flower cards. I desire to help support people going through life transitions, so 10% of business' profits goes to a ministry that is helping people going through life transitions, such as adoption or unexpected pregnancy.
///
Currently I'm going through a huge life change of moving from being a classroom teacher to being a stay at home wife and mom with a small business. (I have a little boy sticking his foot in my ribs — he is due to arrive in November!)
///
If you know someone who likes nature cards, please share my site with them, and thank you for stopping by!

Roses–A Perk of the Month of June

I wonder if the roses bloom because so many people get married in the month of June or so many people marry in June because the blooming roses make it so beautiful? Stephen and I chose June because it gave us enough time to plan and worked well with our families. We only have nine days to go! Here’s some roses I’ve seen recently, and they’ve given me peace during this time of wedding-ness:

 Happy Thursday!

I’m even trying greeting cards in Spanish! The one above is my first one…and if you have an idea for another one, let me know and I’ll create it.

One aspect I love about these cards that I make, is that when they are blank on the front, I attach the photo using photo corners. That means that the person who receives the card can pop the photo out when they are done with the card and frame it! My cousin, Jill, liked a shower invitation I designed, and she framed it and placed it in her bathroom: Continue reading

A couple of months ago, after seeing how excited I was about creating cool cards, my Dad said, “She’s definitely a small shop owner!” He went on to say that “You are the daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter of small shop owners.” I’m proud to be part of that heritage of coming from a family of blacksmiths. In honor of how may Dad created wrought iron, I created cards and a handy 3-ring binder to celebrate this:

Sharing Art and Increasing Generosity: How To Start An Etsy Shop

20151217-181141-65501113.jpg

Have a quirkly scarf you like to crochet or images you enjoy painting and desire to sell some? Creating an Etsy online shop might be just what you need! Etsy.com lets you create a shop and list your items for minimal fees, so if you are  a tiny business wanting to see if there is a market for your items or an established business desiring to connect with customers all over the world, start an Etsy shop!

Last winter while I mopped the animal hospital where I work part-time, I received inspiration to give some of the profits of my shop to non-profit organizations that help people transition well through life.

In March of 2015 Trees of Transition Art and Design launched into the world market with a couple of paintings, some pressed flower note cards and wall art, and a few other greeting cards. Now my site has grown to include bright nature photography on greeting cards and framed from places like Costa Rica, Michigan, and many other places all over the United States.

Several friends have asked me about how I’ve started this little shop, and now I’ll tell you more… Continue reading
