How to Support Your Spouse through Job Loss

As I was changing my son’s diaper, my husband walked in and hugged me, saying, “I will be home tomorrow” (when a big snow storm was coming through). I asked, “Will you work from home?”  As he pulled me closer, he said, “Well, sort of…I got laid off today.” The joy of knowing he would be safely at home with me during the snow storm added joy to the whole situation and even though losing a job is not what was planned, I felt peace. From that 8th day of February, 2018 until he started his new job on Tuesday, April 17th, I learned more how to support a spouse during job loss, job hunt, and relocating for a new job. Both of us had lost jobs before, but it was a growing experience to go through job loss together. I was controlling and fearful at times, but overall it was a helpful experience.

What were some of the things I did to support him and that you can do to support a spouse that is unemployed?

What to do with your cards!

What should you do with all those beautiful greeting cards that you got to celebrate the birth of your baby? These are some of my favorites! (Just tonight I did not have the peepee teepee in place soon enough, so we got a shower onto the floor; that card about this topic is so true.) Continue reading

Transition to Motherhood: Who Throws a Mother a Birthday Party?

Last week I had a couple crying sessions partly because the baby has started teething and is screaming more and partly I got anxious as I got close to my birthday. I planned a gathering of a few friends for cake, tea, and talk; the day before I became nervous about how it would be, and I just wanted to have someone else throw the party for me.

Who plans and celebrates a mother’s birthday? Don’t mother’s plan and lead the celebration of the birthdays in her home? Is it okay that she plans her own celebration or should she wait for her husband to do something? Continue reading

How It Feels to Have a Baby Inside of You

Having a little human inside of you was one of the parts of pregnancy I looked forward to; it is currently one of my favorite things about being pregnant! Our little guy has been pretty gentle (like his Papa), and my placenta is in front, so that cushioned his movements until he grew past that in the last few months. Continue reading

California Love

I feel loved when people feed me; the love that arrived yesterday was in the form of California citrus!

My mother in law sent us a box of lemons and tangerines that she picked from her backyard in California, and it was waiting on our snowy doorstep yesterday when I arrived home. The tangerines have a tang and sweetness that only tree-ripened fruit has, and the peel almost falls off. I’m about to start zesting lemons for a lemon cake, but first I had to share these photos with you.

Happy Friday!

Inspiration from My Baby’s Confidence

The baby boy just latched on to get the milk for his lunch, eyes closed, mouth working, fish lips; he knows he will get food! Seeing his confidence inspires me — he knows that he will be taken care of; I can choose to believe that I will be taken care of too by my husband and, most importantly, by my Heavenly Father!
